MELBOURNE CUP

The first Tuesday of November finds the Club at a member's house (and garden) to celebrate the big race. Catering is on a 'bring-a-plate' basis and drinks are provided. As well as sweepstakes, a hat competition adds some fun to the day.
PROPOSED ADELAIDE TOUR 2018

This will take in mostly private gardens but will include Adelaide Botanical Gardens and a couple of other public gardens. It is unsure at this stage whether this will be in Autumn (March/April) or Spring (October). It would include a visit to Al Ru Farm and possibly Trevor Nottle's garden and a nursery. Flights will be to Adelaide and then by coach to surrounding suburbs and the Adelaide Hills and Clare Valley. Accommodation will be 7 nights in Adelaide. Again, it will be book your own nominated flights and direct payment for accommodation with additional payment for coach, some meals and gardens. Possibly an optional extra tour to Kangaroo Island could be added. Expressions of interest and comments would be greatly appreciated.
PROPOSED SOUTH AFRICA, CAPE TOWN AND STELLENBOSCH TOUR 2018

I did a tour of these gardens in November 2016 with the Mediterranean Garden Society and was blown away by the gardens. The climate and terrain was so similar to ours (dry) except that they have a dry summer and wet winter. I was the only Australian on the tour and it was organised by a lady who lives in Italy but was brought up in The Cape. I have asked if she would do a repeat tour in 2018 and she has said she would if I could get 30 people together. It would be a 10 day tour, staying 5 nights in Stellenbosch and 5 nights in Cape Town. Again it is mostly private gardens with some botanical gardens including Kirstenbosch and a walk on Table Mountain National Park. So again, if you are interested please let me know. After the garden tour, I did a wildlife safari and would strongly recommend it. I do have some details and photos of the gardens on my website.
